My pending break-up with Moviepass

It was love at first sight. A match made in Heaven….or at least that is what I thought. Much like the women in my life, what seems to be good to be true, turns out to be just that. Now I am left heart broken again, as I must end my torrid affair with Moviepass. Now, this may seem easy enough, but sometimes it is difficult to let go.

For those of you that do not know, Moviepass is a subscription service that allows the customer to pay a monthly fee to be able to see one movie a day, every day that month. I met my Moviepass when it was only $9.95 a month. As an avid movie fan, to put it mildly, I was ecstatic to use this service!! Like most new relationships, the honeymoon phase was a whirlwind of excitement. I went to this movie and that movie, with out a care, and my Moviepass was there every time, arms wide open. It wasn’t long until the red flags began to show up.

First came the rule change that would not allow you to use the Moviepass to see the same movie twice. An inconvenience, to be sure, but is that little hiccup in our relationship worth calling if off so soon? Nay, a man must be able to adjust and move forward, and move forward I did! I continued to go to the movies, undaunted by this new rule. Surely I could find a different movie to see every time, hell for $9.95 a month even bad movies were open for a look see. Then came the second red flag. A new fee was added to movies playing a peak times. A “small” fee was, in reality, half the price of the ticket added to the $9.95 I was already paying. AHHHH, just when you think you have your relationship figured out, the other side changes the rules, testing your boundaries. My first thought was, ” OK, I will just go to matinees, or times that are usually not so busy.” You see how I tried to change to fit the new rules, this is a sign of an unhealthy relationship. So, as I altered my movie going, it quickly became apparent that Moviepass felt EVERY movie time was a peak showing. Now, some seven months into our relationship, for the first time I was sensing the end is nigh. Then came the straw the broke the proverbial camels back. I went to use my Moviepass to see the latest Mission: Impossible movie, yet it was blocked from my use, as was every other movie in the theater!! This is basically Moviepass telling me, ” not tonight, I have a headache.” To quote a smart Sicilian, ” INCONCEIVABLE!” Then came the email, telling me that new movies would be blocked, until they have been out for awhile, and the pricing was going up. Suddenly, reality kicked down the door and punched me in the face. This has to end.

As I sit here, sharing my woes with you, my beloved readers, I am ashamed to admit I still haven’t ended this terribly one sided affair. I am going to give Moviepass this one last weekend, to show me there is some fire still burning between us. If it lets me down, then I must man-up and rip the band aid off. Now I know how Adele feels…

Don’t judge me too harshly, fellow film fanatics. I know it may be hard to believe, but I am just a man, with one or two flaws. Despite this pending break up, I will continue to bring you reviews and my movie related ramblings, to bring joy into your otherwise dull lives!!
